Thyroid Condition App
Thyroid Condition Tracker is a Querétaro-based organization focused on bringing support to all people who has a thyroid condition. Through the app people can track their symptoms, understand their blood test result and find a lot of information that will help them to improve their health.
My Role
I am a Project Manager, keep in touch with every team member to make this app possible: Lead UX designer, UX researcher, etc. that luckily all of them are me as well.
Responsibilities
User research, wireframing, prototyping, usability studies, moderator, and analysis of data.
The Problem
Is estimated that more than 200 million people have a thyroid condition. And lots of people even after taking the hormone that stimulates the Thyroid they still have symptoms of tiredness, sadness, insomnia, stress, weight problems, etc.
The Goal
To create an app that helps people to track their symptoms. To bring art to more people around the globe.
Research
Interviews and empathy maps were conducted in order to understand the users and their needs when they know they have a thyroid condition.
There are different user groups, a primary user group identified by the research were people who have hypo, hyper, Hashimoto, graves, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer. These groups and research confirmed that there is a lack of interest from the medical industry to find the root cause of your thyroid condition, taking a hormone pill is not enough.
Pain Points
Target Audience
Women and men, that are between 20 to 75 years old that have a medical thyroid condition and that want to understand more about their condition, want to track their symptoms, and also want to understand the correlation between their blood tests, medicine, supplements, and food to improve their condition.
Digital Wireframes
Each of the pages of the app was created based on the user needs that were identified in the user research. For most of the users, it is important to register any symptom on the app.
Usability studies lead to mockups of the app.
User Results
Two rounds of usability studies were conducted. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
The first design of the App was modified after the feedback received on the first usability study. Users wanted to see bigger and clickable images and also needed a different range of answers for their symptoms.
The second usability study revealed the important it is for users to have a dashboard in which they can see how their thyroid is feeling.
Conclusion
Thyroid Condition Tracker App allows users to acquire knowledge about their conditions, the effect that supplements and food has in their symptoms.
What I learned
While been in charged of the whole development of this project: Thyroid Condition Tracker, I have learned the importance of usability studies and feedback in order to improve the experience of the user in each iteration of the app.
Next step
Conduct another usability study to confirm if the new changes have improved the user experience.
Integrate charts that make a correlation between the blood tests, supplement and food in order to reduce their dosage of hormone.
